Hey guys, ultra secret E!E! LP2 cover leak…

Our good pals Derek and Brian, who are also two of amazing interns at CYLS, accompanied me to my solo show yesterday in Flint.  We stopped off at my parent’s house in Fenton and Derek snapped this guy on his phone and we were all instantly aware of what he was going to do with it, haha.  It’s a picture of the tree house my dad built when we were kids.
Other notable stops included Fenton House for the best bread sticks in the world and my parent’s basement.  I think the first thing they noticed was the game box for Breath of Fire 2.  My basement is a treasure trove of crap because I never used to throw anything away.

Speech is irreversible; that is its fatality. What has been said cannot be unsaid, except by adding to it: to correct, here, is, oddly enough, to continue. In speaking, I can never erase, annul; all I can do is say “I am erasing, annulling, correcting,” in short, speak some more. This very singular annulation-by-addition I shall call “stammering.” Stammering is a message spoiled twice over: it is difficult to understand, but with an effort it can be understood all the same; it is really neither in language nor outside it: it is a noise of language comparable to the knocks by which a motor lets it be known that it is not working properly; such is precisely the meaning of the misfire, the auditory sign of a failure which appears in the functioning of the object. Stammering (of the motor or of the subject) is, in short, a fear: I am afraid the motor is going to stop.

Yeah let’s talk about the term redneck only in contemporary terms. Let’s not talk about the very classist origins of the term. You know about how the upper class would designate them as that and treat them poorly so that the lower class would bargain for white power and privilege, to be subservient to the ruling class. And also how the term actually originated in Ireland. No let’s not do that, instead we’ll play oppression olympics and identity politics with the notion. We’ll talk about Marx but not apply any of his theory.

Nobody is saying racism against white people here. You say people’s opinions don’t validate them (a true statement in its own right) yet you do this yourself when you blatantly ignore the history of class struggle by pushing it aside and calling it opinion.

Foxworthy and the Blue Collar Comedy Tour are nothing but the Post-Modern excess of the original term. What Fredric Jameson would refer to as Cultural Capitalism par excellence.

Palestinian refugees in Egypt // May 17, 2013

As Palestinians around the world recently marked the 65th anniversary of their mass displacement during the war over Israel’s 1948 creation, the refugees in Gezirat al-Fadel say they have it worse than others who fled to Jordan, Syria or Lebanon. Unlike the millions who live in refugee camps in those countries, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) does not have offices in Egypt and so does not offer Palestinian refugees in Egypt assistance.

One of the ways in which pornography perpetrates and reinforces sexism and racism is the normalisation of terror and hate. If we look at the parallel between sexist and racist pornography with sexist and racist jokes, the process becomes clear. In both cases, where previously discriminations based on sex and race are unacceptable in any circumstances, they are “redeemed” through pornography/jokes, because the former is seen as only providing sexual gratification, and the latter is just for a laugh.

When people deplore sexism and racism but make allowances for their proliferations in pornography, pornography has achieved its aim: the creation of acceptance for materials that publicly practise and advertise the hatred and domination of women of colour.

Pornography perpetrates racism through the sexualization and fetishisation of racist stereotypes. In other words, pornography makes racism sexy.
